| 2010 Export Assistance Strategic Business Plan Strengthening markets at home by selling more products abroad |
As of April 19, 2010, bids for exports of Cheddar, Gouda, Monterey Jack, and Colby cheeses are being accepted.
In 2008, the CWT Committee approved the implementation of an Export Assistance Strategic Business Plan. The objective of the plan is to develop sustainable export markets for U.S. cheese, butterfat, and whole milk powder by leveraging farmer-funded efforts in CWT and the U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC). In plain English, the intent of the business plan is to build long-term export markets for U.S. dairy products.
Several markets have been identified to have excellent potential for sales of commodity cheese, butter, butterfat, and whole milk powder. CWT members will be incentivized to develop long-term markets for these U.S. dairy products in these markets.
There are a number of reasons why this focused approach makes sense. The world demand for dairy products is growing. Countries with huge populations like China and India have seen at tremendous growth in their middle class. As these grow, the demand for dairy products grows with it.
